    Insomnia Symptoms

The symptoms of insomnia may vary from one person to the next. Generally, however, the sufferer will experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Difficulty falling asleep, which may last up to one hour. During this time the person will likely be tossing and turning and developing a growing sense of frustration.
  • Constant night time awakenings and ensuing difficulty in getting back to sleep.
  • Waking far too early in the morning and not being able to get back to sleep.
  • Irritability, drowsiness, non productivity and stress during the waking hours.

Chronic insomnia increases the likelihood of depression and anxiety disorder. Insomnia is not characterized by a minimum quantity of sleep but, rather, by how refreshed the sleeper feels after awakening. It is possible to be a short sleeper or a restless sleeper and yet get the amount of sleep you need. The Insomniac, however, feels constantly fatigued throughout the day.
